Police Beat

Business owner calls in a robbery from his rooftop

Aug. 14: A man and a woman were arrested for the reported burglary of a plumbing store located in the 20100 block of Woodinville-Snohomish Road after the business owner called the robbery in because he was on his roof watching the suspects steal from the fenced area surrounding his business.

The man escaped on foot into a nearby woods, but the Bellevue K-9 unit was able to assist in apprehending him.

The woman asked for a lawyer after signing paperwork saying she understood her constitutional rights. The suspects told the officer they were traveling on foot, however during the sweep of the area, the officers found a white Taurus that matched a loose Ford key found in the man’s possession.

The two were booked into King County Jail for investigation of burglary.

Dating relationship ends, threats begin

Aug. 15: A man and a woman had a dating relationship that ended on Friday, August 13th.

The woman called police to report that during a conversation, she was told by her ex-boyfriend that he was coming over and  “she would be sorry.”

The officer talked to the man who said he had been threatened by one of his ex-girlfriend’s friends, but that he had no plans to call or visit her.

Both parties told the officer the threats were not valid on either side and neither wanted to press charges. The officer helped facilitate the return of keys and property for both and advised them to go their separate ways peacefully and to not make anything worse.

Man turned away from tent city, then arrested

Aug. 16: A police officer on routine patrol providing an area check of Tent City 4 in Woodinville was called to talk with a man after Tent City security officers turned him away for possible drug use.

The security people told the man he could not stay because it appeared from his behavior that he was under the influence. The police officer then asked the man what he planned to do. The man said he was going to drive his car away. The officer was very concerned because of the man’s erratic and exaggerated behavior, so he asked him if he had any other drugs with him and he answered that he did not.

However, on the seat of the car, in plain sight, was a baggie containing a white substance that tested positively for cocaine. The man was arrested for DUI and an aid car was called when the man’s breathing and demeanor changed rapidly while in the police car.

At the jail, a guard was asked to assist the arresting officer because the man had squirmed and gotten his handcuffs past his buttocks and behind his knees and could not put his hands behind his back from that position.

The case will be forwarded to detectives with the recommendation that he be charged with possession of a controlled substance.
