Laura Calcagni of Woodinville was a top-10
finalist in cutting with Little Dolly Mac, a
1997 sorrel American quarter horse mare, at
the American Quarter Horse Youth Association
World Championship Show in Fort Worth, Texas.
Tara Martin has accepted a 2-year assignment
with the Peace Corps to serve as an agro-forestry
volunteer in El Salvador. She is the daughter
of Gail and Dale Martin of Woodinville and graduated
from Bothell High School in 2001. Martin earned
a degree in Latin American studies from the
University of Washington in 2004.
Woodinville students who graduated this spring
from Whitworth College were: Kirsten A. Berg
with a bachelor of arts degree in French (Summa
Cum Laude) and Michael R. Wooten with a bachelor
of arts degree in psychology.
Christopher Powell, a 4th grader at East Ridge
Elementary, was recently awarded his first degree
black belt in Tae Kwon Do. He is a student at
Northwest Martial Arts in Woodinville.
Ashley Velatequi of Woodinville took part this
summer in a 5-week ballet class sponsored by
Whitman College and held in Perugia, Italy.
Ashley, a mathematics major, is a junior at
Whitman.
David Trujillo of Woodinville participated
in the National Young Leaders Conference in
Washington, D.C., in August.
Sneha Shailesh Desai has been elected to the
Phi Beta Kappa academic honorary society at
The Johns Hopkins University. She is the daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Shailesh Desai of Woodinville
and a Woodinville High School graduate. Desai,
who majored in neuroscience and completed requirements
for a minor in French literature, graduated
this spring with general and departmental honors
and made Dean’s List for the spring 2004
semester.
Annie Aeschbacher and Hanna Gunderson, both
of Woodinville, were chosen to participate in
a 10-day journey through China as part of the
Girl Scout — Totem Council’s “Honoring
Our Past” program.
Judith Sauve of Woodinville received a bachelor
of arts degree in psychology from Argosy University/Seattle
during the spring 2004 semester.
Woodinville resident and Seattle Pacific University
student Brent Smith returned from a 6-week mission
trip to Guatemala Aug. 17. The trip was part
of SPU’s SPRINT (Seattle Pacific Reachout
INTernational) program.
