| The
Duvall Historical Society takes an active part
in the city of Duvall, maintaining the Landmark
Dougherty House for tours, identifying historic
buildings, providing historic photos for public
view and publishing local histories.
The latest publication, Duvall Immigrant by
Ralph Taylor, is a reprint of a very popular
book out of print for two decades. In addition
to Taylor’s fascinating story of moving
from a well established English city to the
frontier days of Duvall, with its challenges
in adapting to a new way of life, the Historical
Society has added material never before printed.
Ralph Taylor’s paintings now hanging
in the Duvall Library’s Rose Room have
been admired for their self-taught, charming
presentation of old Duvall. What viewers have
never seen are the historical anecdotes he wrote
on the backs of the paintings. These additionals
stories concerning the scenes on the front are
added to the book along with photos of the paintings
they describe.
As a citizen, Taylor was much admired for his
work to better his adopted town, serving as
mayor and benefactor. As a person, he was admired
and loved as a kind and interesting gentleman.
The Duvall Historical Society especially misses
him as a friend and witty historian.
Additional people can now enjoy him through
his account of life in Duvall as it struggled
from 1913 to 1980, through stumps and mud to
a pleasant town full of memories of its past.
The Duvall Historical Society is proud to present
its latest publication, the reprinting of Duvall
Immigrant.
