Watanabe, 11, of Duvall, has won the Boys Age
12 Division Southwest Washington Winter Junior
Rookie Championship, a USTA sanctioned tournament
played in Tacoma, the weekend of Dec. 17-20. He
plays tennis at the Gold Creek Tennis Club in
Woodinville.
Wendell’s brother, Spencer Watanabe,
age 9, who also plays at the Gold Creek Tennis
Club, played in the tournament and was eliminated
in the Boys 10 semifinals in a tie-breaker.
Both boys have been playing tennis for the
past two years and this is their first tournament
win and entry.
