| Starting
next month, the Carnation-Duvall Citizen Corps
(CDCC) is providing Community Emergency Response
Team training (CERT) in Carnation and Duvall.
The training includes fire suppression, search
& rescue, triage and disaster medical aid.
The CDCC has had great success with past sessions
of this class and is thrilled to be able to offer
it to the community once again.
Both the Carnation and the Duvall classes are
already half full – simply from word-of-mouth
and from overflow of the classes offered this
past fall. So sign up now to ensure your spot!
The Carnation class will meet at the Eastside
Fire & Rescue station in Carnation for seven
Tuesday evenings from 6:30 – 9 p.m. starting
March 6. The Duvall class will meet at the main
Fire District 45 station in downtown Duvall
for seven Wednesday evenings from 6:30 –
9 p.m. starting March 8. Both classes will be
combined at the Carnation fire station for a
final, Saturday morning, April 29, including
a disaster simulation during which participants
will have the opportunity to practice their
new skills. This has been a fun and educational
process for all in the past. There will be no
classes the week of April 10 due to local spring
break activities.
The cost of the class is a donation of $25
per person (which includes the FEMA CERT training
manual, safety goggles, gloves, safety mask,
flashlight and more). Each class will be limited
to 24 people so interested individuals are encouraged
to sign up now. Graduates will be eligible to
participate in the second annual CERT drill
held at Tolt-MacDonald Park on Saturday, May
13. Last year the CDCC had over 100 participants
in this community event.
Those interested in becoming CERT-trained or
participating in any of the other Citizen Corps
Council’s programs are welcome to access
the Council’s Internet Web site at www.cdcncl.org
to find out more details, and then fill out
and submit the CDCC’s electronic CERT
application or the electronic volunteer form.
Alternatively, forms may be obtained by sending
a self-addressed stamped envelope to the Carnation-Duvall
Citizen Corps Council, Inc., at P.O. Box 644,
Carnation, WA 98014. Information and registration
also may be obtained by calling Cherise Bromberg,
425-333-0086.
The Carnation-Duvall Citizen Corps Council
is composed of volunteers who reside and/or
work in the Greater Carnation-Duvall area.
The CDCC also sponsors First Aid/CPR classes
(there is still room in the February class),
HAM Radio training, emergency preparedness at
home and more. Check out the Web site at www.cdcncl.org.
