The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) class
put their training into action during a staged
disaster held Feb. 15. The CERT classes train
responsive skills in real-life disaster situations
that affect the community, such as an earthquake,
building collapse or plane crash. Students learn
basic first aid, small fire suppression, room
sweep triage techniques, proper extrication and
lifting techniques and light search and rescue.
Woodinville High School volunteers portrayed disaster
victims in the enacted mass casualty incident.
The next seven-week CERT class session will be
held every Thursday, 6 – 9 p.m., beginning
March 16 and running through May 4. There’s
a $15 charge for books and materials. For more
information or to sign up, contact Woodinville
Fire and Life Safety District at (425) 483-2131.
