is to let Elaine Lee of Woodinville (Letter to
the Editor, Feb 26, 2006, “Litter”)
know that she is not totally alone in her concern
about the marring the spectacular Washington countryside.
My neighbors and I pick up mounds of trash on
our walks in our Bothell neighborhood. Warning
signs mean nothing to these thugs. “No Dumping”
signs are posted, yet the gullies are strewn with
major appliances, furniture and yard debris.
Besides being totally perplexed by the ignorance
and disrespect of the litterers, I am amazed
by the homeowners who are apathetic about the
trash on and near their own property. Many people
thank us as they see us picking up the debris.
The best thanks that I could get from others
are for them to carry a trash bag on their walks.
I know that our law officers have better things
to do than stake out these vandals, however
in light of the many empty liquor containers
that we find on a daily basis, there is a more
serious crime going on than just littering.
