| After
reading a couple of the March 20th letters
to the editor, I would like clarify the intent
of the Cops and Clergy program. Our Cops and
Clergy program is merely one of many attempts
made by our police department to reach out
and work with any and all interested groups
of citizens in the Woodinville community. We
exclude no person or group from our list of
potential partners in assisting us in our mission
of providing our citizens with a safe community
to call home.
We are proud of our relationships with our
area schools, both public and private, local
merchants, Boys and Girls Scout Troops, Chamber
of Commerce, Rotary Club and Block Watch
Neighborhoods. We are excited to take part
in the newly formed Woodinville Citizen Corps.
The Cops and Clergy program is a natural
extension of our outreach to organized community
groups and in no way should be viewed as
an endorsement by the City of Woodinville
of any particular faith or organized religion.
Every member of The Woodinville Police Department
has sworn to uphold the laws and Constitution
of the United States of America. We take
that responsibility very seriously. The trust
and good will of the whole community is the
only thing that allows a police department
to function effectively.
Our goal is and has always been to reduce
crime and fear of crime in our city. Everyone
is encouraged to assist us with this endeavor.
