‘Slow Schools’ advocate to speak at UWB

The University of Washington Bothell (UWB) Education Program will host a talk by Maurice Holt, longtime teacher, principal, professor emeritus, author and educational consultant, Thursday, March 30, from 4:30 – 6 p.m. on the UW Bothell campus. Dr. Holt will be presenting his concept of “slow schools,” which he launched in 2003, based on an analogy with the slow food movement.

Holt has closely followed education trends in both the U.S. and England. He believes the slow schools approach is an opportunity to capitalize on a powerful metaphor and serve as an alternative to the narrow objectives of standards-based education in both countries. The slow schools’ approach follows a broad curriculum that can offer all students the scope and intensity of liberal education.

The presentation will be held in the UW Bothell/Cascadia Community College library in room LB1-205.
