Canyon Park Junior High School will carry the Washington State Science Olympiad mascot, the salmon, to the National Competition on May 19-20.

Twenty-four 7th, 8th, and 9th graders represented Canyon Park and the Bothell/Woodinville communities on April 8 at the Washington State Finals at Eastern Washington University. The competition drew the best 21 teams from all of Washington state.

After months of hard work and preparation, the Canyon Park students investigated, modeled, and displayed their expertise in a variety of scientific and technological events.

Some brought devices that were put to a variety of challenges, while others had to perform amazing science feats on the spot.

All students made an impressive showing, earning commanding medal finishes in 19 of the 23 possible events. This year’s finals will be held at Indiana University in Bloomington, Ind.

Coaches Sheila Guard and Jeff Armentrout continue to be impressed by the group’s focus and dedication.
