Eric Allan

Riley Linder

A Boy Scout Court of Honor was held for Eric Allan to celebrate his rank of Eagle Scout. Allan is a member of Troop 39, which is sponsored by the Maltby Community Club. Allan’s Eagle Project consisted of removing sod and installing a concrete sidewalk at the Maltby Community Center. He has earned 36 merit badges and has held several troop leadership positions, including senior patrol leader and assistant senior patrol leader. Allan received Troop 39’s Leadership Award in 2003 and the Scoutmaster’s Award in 2004. He is also a member of the Order of the Arrow. Allan is the son of John and Glenda Allan and is a junior at Cedar Park Christian School in Bothell where he is involved in golf, soccer and Honor Society.

Woodinville High School senior Riley Linder has received a full appointment to the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut. The appointment, which is earned by only 10 percent of Academy applicants, comes with a four-year scholarship worth over $200,000. Upon graduation after four years, Riley will be commissioned as a Coast Guard Officer. He’ll leave for Connecticut in early July as the first Woodinville High School graduate to enter the Coast Guard Academy.

Helen Roundhill, Woodinville High School 2005, recently performed at the Kennedy Center, Washington, D.C., in the University of Evansville production of “The Anatomy of Gray.”

Kieran A. Worrell, a 2004 Woodinville High School graduate, was awarded a $3,000 Pete Harman Scholarship from the Washington State University School of Hospitality Business Management. Worrell is a sophomore majoring in hospitality and a member of Sigma Iota. She is the daughter of Wendy and Gregory Worrell of Woodinville.

The following area students received degrees from University of Idaho in May:

Melissa LeeAnn Jensen, B.S.P.E., Athletic Training and B.S. Ed., School and Community Health Education from Kenmore and Kelsey Ann Hall, B.S. Wildl. Res., Wildlife Resources of Woodinville.

The following students were elected as members to the Washington State University Phi Beta Kappa society, the oldest undergraduate honors organization in the United States:

  • Katie L. Marsh, a 2003 Inglemoor High School graduate, is a pre-dental senior studying zoology and Spanish. Marsh is a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars and is a Girl Scout co-leader for a Brownie troop. She is a sliver Regent Scholar and the recipient of the Glenn Terrell Presidential Scholarship. Marsh is the daughter of Deborah and Jerry Marsh of Bothell.
  • Jared A. Fiorillo, a 1996 Woodinville High School graduate, is a senior studying Spanish and Latin American Studies.

Washington State University College of Agricultural, Human, and Natural Resource Sciences recently recognized excellence, initiative, creativity, service, leadership and scholarship in their students, staff and faculty.

  • Junior Stacy DeKoekkoek is a nominee for the Family and Consumer Scientist of the Year Award. DeKoekkoek, a 2003 graduate of Bothell High School, is studying interior design at WSU. She is the daughter of Marcia and Don DeKoekkoek of Bothell.
  • Sophomore Kathryn Dern is a nominee for the Outstanding Freshman Award.Dern, a 2004 graduate of Cedarcrest High School, is studying animal science at WSU. She is the daughter of Suzanne and Carl Dern of Elizabethtown, Pa
  • James Evans is a nominee for the Outstanding Junior in Agriculture Award.Evans is studying economics at WSU. He is the son of Debra and Robert Evans of Woodinville
  • Sophomore Katherine Figel is a nominee for the Outstanding Freshman Award. Figel, a 2004 graduate of Woodinville High School, is studying dietetics at WSU. She is the daughter of Sandy and Rudy Figel of Woodinville.

Gail Neubert of Woodinville has been recognized with a prestigious 2006 Totem Award by the Puget Sound Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America. Neubert was honored as editor of the Evergreen Monitor, the quarterly community newsletter of Evergreen Healthcare. Neubert was also recently honored with two e-Healthcare Leadership Awards for her work on the redesign of Evergreen Healthcare’s Web site.

Private Patrick G. Abrams, a 2004 graduate of Bothell High School, is working with recruiters of the U.S. Army Recruiting Station in Woodinville. He is the son of Robert and Cindy Abrams of Woodinville.

Katie Westlake of Bothell was a cast member of the Linfield College production of “Hamlet.” She is the daughter of David and Beverly Westlake of Bothell.

Matthew M. Bryant of Woodinville has received a bachelor of arts degree in media management with a minor in business from Arizona State University’s Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication.

Charles Phelps of Woodinville will attend Presidential Classroom’s “National Security in a Democracy Program” in Washington, D.C., during July.

Craig Nelson was named to the Dean’s List at the University of Washington for Winter Quarter 2006.

Jadriene Peterson, a 2005 Woodinville High School graduate, was named to the United States Collegiate Ski Association’s Academic All-America Team for maintaining a 3.5 GPA or better while competing at the national level for the Rocky Mountain College Alpine Ski Team.

Over 400 students from 15 states ran through the woods just outside Brevard, N.C., searching for controls laid out on mapped courses. They competed with maps, compasses and electronic controls at their ready in the 2006 US Interscholastic Orienteering Championship April 22-23. A team of four, representing Woodinville Montessori School, won the Middle School Champions title for a second consecutive year. Team members, who brought home the championship trophy, include Dana Breseman, Marissa Roecks, Robin Wyatt-Stone and Kelsey Breseman. Roecks, 9th grad, took first place on day one of the event; and classmate Breseman took first place on day two. Breseman, fifth grader took fourth overall for both days. Roecks took first place overall in the middle school girls’ competition. Robin Wyatt-Stone, 9th grade, placed in the upper third of all boys running – an outstanding performance given this was his first national-level race.

Three Western Washington University students from Woodinville earned scholarships for the 2005-2006 academic year:

  • Zoe Fraley, daughter of Michael Knapp and Kate Fraley of Woodinville, earned a $1,000 Gerson Miller Scholarship. Fraley is studying journalism and has worked as head copy editor and editor in chief of The Western Front, Western’s student newspaper.
  • Rachel Wilkowski, daughter of James and Kimberly Wilkowski of Woodinville, earned a $2,250 President’s Scholarship, a $1,500 Western Foundation Scholarship and a $1,000 Western Foundation Distinguished Scholar Award. Wilkowski graduated from Inglemoor High School where she was a Principal’s Scholar, a President’s Scholar and valedictorian. She is a Habitat for Humanity volunteer and is studying art history.
  • Ansel Sanger, son of Frank and Kristen Sanger of Woodinville, earned a $500 Choral Performance Scholarship. Sanger is studying vocal performance and is a member of the Columbia choir.

Years of hard work and dedication have paid off for Woodinville High School juniors Jamie Bullock and Larissa Duncan, who have recently qualified to represent the United States at the Maple Leaf International Jump Rope Championship in Toronto, Canada, in July. Their team of five trained for several months in preparation for the U.S. Jump Rope Trials in Boulder, Colorado, which took place in March. Over two days of competition in speed and freestyle events, they earned a spot on the U.S. team by earning 6th place overall.
