Carnation 4th of July holds T-shirt design contest
The Carnation 4th of July Committee is holding a T-shirt design contest. The design is for the 5-K Run for the Pies T-shirt. This year the Carnation 4th of July Celebration theme is Community. All ages are eligible for the contest. The committee asks that entrants limit the color to two and that the year is somewhere in the design along with the 4th of July.

Send designs to Nicole Pitts, PO Box 736, Carnation, WA 98014 no later than June 3. Entrants need to remember to put their name and phone number on the entry. The design will be chosen by June 10. Prize for the winning design is $125 cash and 2nd place will win $50 cash.

Carnation 4th of July fund-raiser
The Carnation 4th of July Committee, along with Pete’s Club, is holding their 2nd annual fund-raiser on Friday, May 26 at 8 p.m. at Pete’s Club. There will be two bands. Starting out the evening will be John DeCarlo’s band Blues Crossing and then headlining is Big Jungl.

Come on down and listen and dance to these two fabulous bands while supporting a great celebration. There will be a cover charge of $5 which benefits the 4th of July Celebration and a 50/50 raffle.

Two productions by River View Drama
River View Drama, in association with the Duvall Cultural Commission, presents a series of drama productions involving junior high and elementary school students from the Riverview School District. Productions are scheduled for May 26 and 27 and June 9 and 10 in the Tolt Middle School multi-purpose room in Carnation. Curtain is at 7 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children 12 and under. The junior high production of Our Town by Thornton Wilder and directed by Chuck Young of Duvall is on May 26 and 27.

The elementary school drama group presents an evening of Whales, Bathrooms, Fairy Tales, Socks That Stuck and Julia Bates consisting of a series of six short plays on Friday, June 9 and Saturday, June 10.

River View Drama is an after-school program for elementary school and middle school students based at Tolt Middle School and is a program of the Duvall Cultural Commission. The program is open to any student living in the Riverview School District, including public, private and home-schooled students.For more information, contact Jan King at (425) 580-6820.

Fiber arts demonstration day
A fiber arts demonstration day will be held on Tuesday, May 23, 2-4 p.m. at Miller’s, 4597 Tolt Ave, Carnation. Rug hooking, silk-painting and basketry will be among the fiber arts demonstrated at this informal gathering. If you work with fiber: spinning, knitting, quilting, felting, or if you feel like showing us whatever it is that you do, please join us, it is free, and simply a chance to gather together, and share good works. ‘For the Health of It’ to be held on May 19
The Sno-Valley Senior Activity Center is holding a free Health Fair on Friday, May 19 from 9 a.m. to noon. “For the Health of It” includes demos, screenings, free gifts and a soup kitchen. This is a great opportunity to get your blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar levels checked for no charge. There are skin cancer screenings, and diabetes screening as well as memory testing. Also, get information on Medicare Part D Prescription Drug plans, emergency preparedness, assisted living devices and much, much more.

Group Health is providing free pocket first aid kits and pedometers to the first 40 people in the door. If you visit all the vendors at the fair, you will receive a free lunch of homemade soup. The Sno-Valley Senior Activity Center is located at 4610 Stephens Ave. in Carnation, just behind Carnation city hall, ½ a block of Hwy. 203 downtown.
