Boise State University’s
Department of Geosciences is currently acquiring
seismic
profiles to image the Southern Whidbey Island
fault near Woodinville, Carnation and Snoqualmie.
The team hopes to identify the fault location,
characterize the fault history, and identify
the interplay with the Seattle Fault that
extends through downtown Seattle. Testing
equipment was set up last week on NE 195th
Street between 156th Avenue and the Lake
Leota area in Woodinville and is presently
along Ames Lake Road between state highways
202 and 203. The project, funded through
a grant from the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS),
is part of a multi-year campaign to study
active faults in the Puget Lowland. The study
has encompassed Bellevue and Tacoma in previous
years and now includes the Woodinville, Carnation
and Snoqualmie areas. The City has requested
that it receive the final report expected
to be complete in several months.
This project is not associated with the
Brightwater Wastewater Treatment Facility.
