Nigel Lee pushes his daughter Jenny in the
2004 Carnation 4th Run for the Pies.
This year’s 11th annual “Run for
the Pies” on July 4th is dedicated to
the memory of a remarkable man, Nigel Lee.
Pie runners out there knew Nigel and missed
him greatly last year. You see, Nigel’s
sons, Chris and Brian, were always in contention
for a pie – up there in the front of
the race with CHS XC Coach Bruce McDowell’s

Duvall-Carnation Police Lt. Gene Sanders was
honored recently with a volunteer award from
the Snoqualmie Valley Community Network.
Honored as ‘One of those who rise ...and
make the Valley shine’
Lt. Gene Sanders couldn’t be at the
10th annual Rise and Shine Breakfast presentation
award ceremony on June 14. He was at a required
meeting for mid-level management for police.
But his absence turned out to be a great time
to tell stories about him as the audience laughed
their way through eggs and bacon.

Carnation Parade Grand Marshals Steve Norton
and Dorene Chielens-Norton
When the Carnation
4th of July Committee decided “Community” would
be the theme for this year’s celebration,
it was an easy next step to choose the grand
marshals for the parade.
“Because our
theme is ‘Community,’ we thought
it appropriate to have Dorene Chielens-Norton
and husband Steve Norton represent us this
year,” said Parade Chair Kim Lisk.
