Woodinville Wranglers athletes display their track team trophies distributed at a recent City Council meeting.

The Woodinville City Council extended hearty congratulations to 38 Woodinville Wranglers athletes at its June 4 meeting.

The Wranglers specialized recreation program is offered through the city’s Parks and Recreation Department and provides recreational and social opportunities for participants with disabilities and their families.

At the meeting, the young competitors wore team T-shirts donated by the Bellevue office of HDR Engineering and received trophies purchased using proceeds from a community car wash organized by teen volunteer Kelsey Broceck.

This spring, the Wranglers track team practiced at Leota Junior High, participated in regional competition at Shoreline, and 24 members advanced to the Washington Special Olympics State Games held June 2-3 at the Fort Lewis U.S. Army post in Pierce County.

Team members include Eric Angelo, Nigel Aspen, Laila Berrada, Molly Borchers, Jessica Boushee, Alan Bridgeford, Sean Cameron, Brooke Christianson, Katie Couch, Ryan Creager, Ike Ditzenberger, Jacob Dodd, Clarise Geib, Erica Gerken, Spencer Gillett, Skyler Gratton, Caitlain Raye Harper, Colin Hillig, Marcus Hodges, Daniel Honda, Trenton Hudkins, Zach Jones, Max Jordan, Davis Kimball, Cory Maras, Christopher Miller, Chloe Moser, Scott Nichols, Melanie Patterson, Brent Perley, Hollie Peterson, Desiree Reeser, Justin Shelton, Alysha Spores, Casey Tuthill, Bethany Ward, Michael Williams, and Nicholas Woll. This was the Woodinville Wranglers biggest team yet and one of the largest track teams at the State Games.

The Games included running, walking, jumping, and throwing events, relays and wheelchair events.
