Eric
Garner, Woodinville took first place in the
men’s 5K run.
Clear blue skies, a shady
5K trail and the challenge of one of the
toughest 10K courses
in Washington State beckoned 300+ runners
for the 2nd Duvall Days 5K/10K runs.
The top-notch event had some whimsical moments,
including Course Director Dean Vergillo leading
all the 5K runners in a round of “Happy
Birthday to You” to birthday girl Kate
Harris at the start line.
But the highlight of the day was a finish
straight out of the sports reels; they’ll
be talking about this one in Duvall for years
to come as last year’s winner and Snoqualmie
Valley Cup Champ, Two-Time All American Eric
Garner, bested Brooks/Seattle Running Team
Member Drew Wartenburg down the stretch in
an exciting 5K battle that ignited the crowd.
Setting an overall 5K pace of 4.58, Wartenburg
and Garner rounded the corner with Wartenburg
in the lead. Garner overtook him just 25
yards from the finish line.
