Kate Jack, 13, of Woodinville, and her
horse, Sugar, won the 13-18 age group
at the Whidbey Western Games Association
Patterned Horse Racing Championship held
August 25-26. This was one of only two
championship shows like this held in
the Northwest each year. First place
is a new saddle. Kate and Sugar competed
in 11 timed events over the two days
and were fast enough to be the high point
winners overall. (Kate and Sugar are

Members of Peak Performance Training-Team
Seattle competed at the 2007 Senior National
and Junior Olympic Championships held
in San Jose, Calif., July 10-15. The
team trains in Woodinville under Master
Tuoi Le and is part of a larger national
competition team based in Miami, Fla.,
headed by Olympic silver medalist, Master
Juan Moreno. Talina Le(pictured front
row, left) qualified for Junior National
Team Trials in Colorado Springs, Col.,
where she took a Gold in the Fin weight
division, qualifying her to compete for
the US at the 4th Pan American Junior
Championships on Oct. 5th in Daytona,

In July, Todd Mickelson, son ot Tim and
Beth Mickelson of Woodinville, competed
in the World Rowing Under-23 Championships
in Glasgow, Scotland. Midkelson competed
in the lightweight men’s double
scull event for which he and his teammate
qualified for the A-Level Grand Finals,
besting 11 other crews. Mickelson is
a member of the Lehigh University Men’s
Varsity Crew team. He participated in
the U.S. National Rowing Team Selection
Camp in Connecticut this June and July
before being selected to represent the
U.S. in this World Championship regatta. |
The following students have earned honor roll
status for the summer quarter of 2007 at Central
Washington University: Heidi Shoeman, a senior
from Bothell; Sara-anne Gates, a senior from
Carnation; Ashley Nicole Henry, a senior from
Carnation; John E. DeFrees, a senior from Kenmore;
Peter Anthony Sayah, a senior from Kenmore;
Angela Kathleen Starr, a senior from Woodinville.
Melba Miller, CIPS, of Windermere Real Estate
in Woodinville, joined other international
real estate professionals at the FIABCI-USA
2007 Summer Retreat in Atlanta, Ga., Aug. 24-27,
in order to stay up to date on important markets
in international real estate and network with
fellow global real estate professionals.
The following area students graduated from
Whitworth College in May 2007: Shannon Billing
of Redmond (bachelor of arts in business management
cum laude); Adam Bohnett of Redmond (bachelor
of arts in business management); Ali Seyedali
of Redmond (bachelor of arts in journalism);
Michael Tucker of Snohomish (bachelor of arts
in health, fitness and physical education);
Elisabeth Whitney of Snohomish (bachelor of
arts in peace studies cum laude).
James Katica, administrative services director
for the City of Woodinville, has received the
prestigious “Professional Finance Officer” award
for 2007 from the Washington Finance Officer’s
Association. This annual award requires on-going
educational and professional excellence on
the part of each individual and is not automatically
awarded.
Woodinville resident Gary Gonzalez will be
a Westminster College defender for the 2007
men’s soccer season. Gonzalez began his
first semester this fall at Westminster which
is located in Salt Lake City, Utah.
The following area students graduated from
Santa Clara University in June 2007: Ashley
Graham of Redmond with a degree in psychology;
David Backes of Redmond with a degree in sociology;
Gabriela Grijalva of Redmond with a degree
in studio art; Jill Piermattei of Redmond with
a degree in finance; Jennifer Keaton of Woodinville
with a degree in art history; Evan Hayduk of
Woodinville with a degree in political science;
Ashley Schweickart of Woodinville with a degree
in sociology.
