Born
May 8, 1930, in Sandusky, Ohio, Thomas Young
passed away on Sept. 8, 2007, in Bothell.
He
graduated from Margaretta High School, Castalia,
Ohio, in 1948 where he was a varsity
lettermen and an all-star basketball player.
Following his high school graduation, Tom
attended THE Ohio State University. Following
his collegiate years as a Buckeye student,
Tom served his country in the U.S. Air
Force, 1951-1955, during the Korean War earning
the rank of staff sergeant.
After completing his Air Force tour, Tom
entered the work force as an engineer technician
initially with Douglas Aircraft, and 27 years
in the Combat Systems Section of the Design
Division at Long Beach Naval Shipyard in
Long Beach, Calif. In addition,
Tom volunteered many hours to support the
St. Anthony’s High School Athletic
Program in Long Beach, Calif., 1973-1975.
Tom’s many hobbies throughout his
life included basketball, painting, running,
riding his touring motorcycle, operating
his ham radio, and achieving his pilot’s
license. But his true joy was supporting
and experiencing his family and grandkids
with their athletic activities, including
1985 (49er) and 2003 (Raiders) Super Bowls,
1976 (UCLA) and 2001 (UW) Rose Bowls, UW
Volleyball and the Seattle Mariners Minor
League Baseball, etc.
Tom married Pauline Olszewski of Long Beach,
Calif., in 1956. Tom and Pauline were married
for 30 years and were blessed with one daughter,
Tina. They separated and divorced in 1985.
Tom was a longtime resident of Long Beach,
Calif., and retired in Sun City, Calif. Most
recently Tom moved to Washington state to
be near his daughter and her family in Woodinville.
He is survived by daughter, Tina and her
husband, Manu Tuiasosopo; five grandchildren:
Leslie, Marques (Lisa), Zachary (Tasha),
Matthew and Ashley and one great-grandson,
Tyrus; sister, Mildred Martin; brothers Norman,
Raymond and James Young; and many nieces
and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother Mary
and father Theodore Young; brothers, Alton
and Theodore Young.
Funeral services were held Sept. 17 at the
Bothell Funeral Home. Committal (gravesite)
services were at Tahoma National Cemetery,
