Solar in Seattle?

Rain or shine, after the All Fools Day Parade on March 29 skeptics who don’t believe you can do solar power in Seattle suburbs, should come find out how you can really “go green” in the wallet, while saving the earth — when renovating or building homes or businesses.

One of the state’s leading experts will be giving a free talk on Saturday afternoon from 2 to 4:30 at the Northshore United Church of Christ (18900 168th Ave NE, Woodinville). The event is co-sponsored by the Woodinville Unitarian Universalist Church.

“Solar Power Your Home: It Works!” starts with Nonda Trimis, an architect specializing in sustainable green design. He’ll give an update on new ways to go solar. from roof shingles in a carport roof, to thin laminates on a solar awning.

For the “nuts and bolts,” specific home projects will be described by Chris Herman, co-founder of the Northwest Eco-Building Guild.

Herman’s knowledge is encyclopedic,” says long-time local environmental activist Judy Westall. “He not only explains solar projects, but his talks are filled with all kinds of green ideas for renovations — anything from floors to paints.”

March 29th will be a great day to celebrate community — through the Woodinville parade and local events, plus this chance to meet like-minded neighbors interested in green living. Because the two experts are generously donating their time and expertise for this free event, there will be a free-will offering. A bake-sale and raffle, with proceeds going toward further green community building, will be held. For more information: www.northshoreucc.org.
