Northshore School District was working through an arduous public process that would have resulted in the closure of Woodin Elementary at 12950 N.E. 195th Street, Bothell.
The proposed closure was certainly one of the more drastic cost-cutting measures entertained by the district in years. It roused considerable opposition since, in addition to shutting down a beloved neighborhood school that represents a wide range of cultures and backgrounds, the closure would have triggered school boundary adjustments that would have displaced over 800 elementary children in the Woodinville area.

Geneva Meyers recently celebrated her 105th birthday. She has been a Woodinville-Bothell resident for many years.
Happy, positive attitude is secret to longevity for local centenarian
Geneva Meyers readily admits that she doesn’t know the secret to a long life. “I don’t think anyone really does,” she responds with a laugh. “I can only say that I’ve been a happy woman throughout my life. I’ve had a happy disposition and I’ve always been a positive person. But, if you ask me whether I do anything special or eat anything special, I don’t. I break all the rules and I don’t do anything I’m told to do!”

Adding to the realism of the disaster search and rescue portion of the exercise, several young volunteers displayed injuries simulated by make-up applied by Linette Andres, the Moulage Lady, who came down from Arlington to help.
Sixteen Stillwater Elementary School staff and PTSA members graduated on March 15th from the FEMA-sponsored Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) course.
CERT courses are provided locally by the Carnation-Duvall Citizen Corps Council in cooperation with Eastside Fire and Rescue and King County/Duvall Fire District 45.

Cherry Valley student Elli Viljamaa was one of the “painting enthusiasts” enjoying CVE “ARTS ALIVE.”
If you happened to be wandering the halls of Cherry Valley Elementary on Friday, March 14th, you would have been witness to the beauty of students receiving a hands- on education with … watercolor, monoprints, pastels, theater, games, drama, stories, improvisation, music and dance.
This very special day came about with a request from music teacher Jonna Farley to the Cherry Valley PTA and the hope of creating a special event which both supports and appreciates the work of our local artists, while bringing the magic of their talents directly to the hearts, minds and hands of our students.
