Morgan G. Giddings was awarded a $2,500 Evergreen Community Development Association Scholarship and a $1,000 R. August and Sandra Kempf Scholarship at Washington State University based on her academic excellence. Giddings graduated from Woodinville High School in 2005 and anticipates graduating from WSU with a degree in international business in May 2009. She is the daughter of Rebecca Clark and J. Scott Giddings from Woodinville.
Sam Luke, a 2007 Woodinville High School graduate and the son of Sherry Wysong of Woodinville and Ron Luke of Bainbridge Island, received two awards at the Spring ROTC Award Ceremony at Washington State University, where he is a freshman. He received the David L. Wilcox award for outstanding freshman Cougar Ranger and the Cougar Battalion APFT (Army Physical Fitness Test) Award for a perfect score.
The following undergraduate and graduate students have been selected to receive the 2008 President’s Award at Washington State University:
- Bothell: David Street, a Civil Engineering and Spanish Senior; and Lacretia Taylor, a Public Relations Senior.
- Lake Forest Park: Brian Carlton, a History and Civil Engineering Senior.
- Woodinville: A. Katherine Figel, a Dietetics Senior.
Local gymnast, Hailey Wells, 15, took first place in Vault, Beam & Bars and 2nd place in Floor Routine to cinch first place overall in the Gymnastic Regional Senior class B competition in Spokane April 21.
Melody Albrecht of Woodinville attended the 3rd annual meeting of the National Meningitis Association’s public awarness coalition, “Moms on Meningitis (M.O.M.s),” held in Orlando, Fla. She is representing the state of Washington. Albrecht’s son, Drew, died of meningococcal disease. The M.O.M.s coalition is made up of nearly 40 mothers from across the country whose children have died or live with permanent disability as a result of meningococcal disease.
Jamie Kitts of Bothell was featured in “Bleacher Bums,” a Linfield College play that explores the lives of loyal Chicago Cubs fans at the Linfild College Marshall Theatre. Kitts is a sophomore majoring in theatre arts and psychology. He is the son o Bruce and Cindy Kitts of Bothell and is a 2006 graduate of Inglemoor High School. At Linfield, Kitts is a member of the Associated Students of Linfield College Senate, the Improv Club and Delta Psi Delta fraternity.
