James Oliver Berto

Obit BertoJames Oliver Berto passed away peacefully at home in Vancouver, Wash. on June 14, 2014, surrounded by his family. He had struggled in recent years with Alzheimer’s disease.

Jim was born August 26, 1932 in Bothell, Wash. He was the great-great-grandson of David Bothell, the founder of Bothell.

Jim met the love of his life, Pat Stonack, while they both attended Bothell High School. They married in 1951, remaining happily married until his death. They celebrated endless joy, traveling the world, hunting, fishing, camping, spending time with their three children, grandchildren, extended family and friends.
Jim enlisted in the Air Force in 1951 and served during both the Korean War and the Vietnam War. After a 20-year career in the Air Force he retired as a Senior Master Sergeant.

Later employment included being a letter carrier for Bothell Post Office and a mechanic for Lake Washington School District Transportation Department.

Jim is survived by his wife, Pat, daughter Christine (Steve) Kramer, son Jim (Kim) Berto, daughter Teresa (John) Roth, grandchildren Jeremy (Maggie), Joshua, Jimmy, Johnny (Chanel), Amy (Culley), Bailey, and Jillian, great-grandaughter Nella Rose, sister Betty Niemeyer, sister-in-law Carol (Robin) Hill, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
His joy of life and love for his family will be missed by all.

A memorial service will be held July 26, 2014 at 11 a.m. at First Lutheran Church in Bothell. A reception will follow at the old Berto farm. Remembrances may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Lutheran World Relief.
