Shelley (Flack) Beck of Woodinville has been named assistant coach for the U.S. women’s soccer team in the 2017 World University Summer Games, to be held August 19-30 in Taipei, Taiwan.

IMG 0353Beck, who was recently named  girls’  coach at Eastside Catholic High School, holds a USSF B coaching license and has operated Strictly Soccer private soccer training for 25 years. She was an All-American player at the University of Puget Sound, helping the Loggers reach the 1985 NAIA championship game.

Legendary Seattle Pacific University men’s coach Cliff McCrath is head coach of the U.S. women.

The U.S. roster is comprised of 16 women who are past or current players at 14 universities across the country. Bellevue’s Jaimee Farrell, a midfielder at New York’s Stony Brook, earlier led Interlake to a state title.

Three other players have local ties. Seattle’s Jessie Ayers was an All-American forward at Colorado College after starring for Roosevelt High School. Kavita Battan of Vancouver, Wash., and Hockinson High School, was an all-region forward for Idaho. Caitlyn Jobanek led Western Washington to the NCAA Division II championship last year.
