Cydney Knapp of Redmond was filled with strength as she spoke about her son, Kuba, at Kindering’s annual graduation ceremony on August 15, 2018. When parents first arrive at Kindering, they often feel like they are the only people in the world experiencing the trials of raising a child with special needs. And indeed, they may have a child who has a condition so uncommon that it doesn’t even have a name. Kuba was born with a rare genetic mutation that has caused significant developmental delays.
Students at Evergreen Academy Elementary School in Bothell and Evergreen Academy Preschools in Bothell, Kirkland and Issaquah recently donated 294 school supplies items to local organization Hopelink. Throughout the month, students collected backpacks, pens, paper, and other basic school supplies to support local children as they prepare to go back to school. At the close of the drive, students also helped load the donations into Hopelink’s vehicle when a representative visited the school to collect the items. Through this initiative, students learned the importance of helping other children.
Hopelink has served homeless and low-income families, children, seniors and people with disabilities in north and East King County since 1971. The organization works to provide stability and help people gain the skills and knowledge they need to exit poverty for good.
