There’s an amazing thing that takes place in the Duvall/Carnation area. During the holiday season it’s very evident, yet it happens each and every week. I’m referring to the food bank that is housed in Holy Innocents Catholic Church. Each Wednesday members of the community staff the food bank and hand out food to those in need. They are not only there on Wednesdays; there are many aspects to running this outreach, from gleaning and shopping to sorting and more. During the holidays there is a gift giving aspect to the community outreach as well. I would like to thank all of those that came out to help this year.
We helped 132 families during the holiday season. These families received food for their holiday meal, gift cards for gas and holiday shopping and were able to choose gifts for members of their families. The support was overwhelming from this community and beyond. We collected boxes upon boxes of new games, toys and clothing. A very special thank you to St. Monica’s on Mercer Island for donating 48 brand new coats! Thank you also to Valerie Stewart, Madeleine Harris, Karen Hausrath, Shirley Vanhulle, Nick and Georgianne Arnot, Kelly Taylor, Annette Thomas, RuthAnne Hoar, Pam and Kirk Werner, Diane Tremaine, Krista Golden, Rick and Max Harris, Deb Stupfel, Peg Jatekar and Anthony Ditore.
There were so many people that helped and if I am forgetting any of you I truly apologize. There were so many from the community that donated goods; I cannot begin to list them. I am looking forward to this wonderful event again in 2015! Happy New Year to all.
