The CXC squad hosted our only home meet at Blue Heron Golf Course in Carnation. We are very grateful that we are allowed to use the course as our home course. It is a great place to run (and to watch). The spectators just stroll across the fairways for a bit and stroll back to watch the finish. So, one big thanks to Dan Tachell and the other important people at Blue Heron.
For this part, seven of the eight teams in our conference attended today’s meet. Even with that, we don’t worry too much about the other teams. We just try to focus on us running well.
The girls raced first. Madi Shinn and Alicia Krivanek went 1-2. Madi now sits 6th and Alicia is 9th on our top ten list for this course. Ruby Farias (6th), Mary Cate Babcock (7th) and Megan Reid (9th) gave us five in the top 10. Keeping up our show of depth, we put five more (10 total) in the top 15. More importantly, we put nine runners sub 23 minutes. Even better, ten runners on this year’s team ran faster than our # 4 runner did at last year’s meet. The boys raced last. Ian Fay, Grant Van Valkenburg, and Ben Benson went 1-2-3. Ian is 3rd and Grant is 9th on our top ten list for this course. Cameron Hammontree (5th), Gunnar Schultz (8th) and Vincent Dams (10th) gave us six in the top 10.
Again with some depth, we put two more (8 total) in the top 15.
We put eight runners sub 18 minutes Nine runners on this year’s team ran faster than our # 6 runner did at last year’s meet. Both squads ran very well, not just our faster runners. Today was very much a bounce back day for us. We ran much better today than our Sunfair performance.
Our Athletes of the Meet were Simon Fraser, Gunnar Schultz, Justin Young, Madi Shinn, Mary Cate Babcock and Ruby Farias. Special shout out to Brennan LeBlanc and Caleb Klingsheim for battling back from injury to get back to running in meets.
Thanks to everyone that helped out at the meet. Nice supply of parent helpers for the finish line and the course monitors. Special thanks to Stormi Kiesow for willing to be the computer results person. Never an easy task.
Also, thanks to CHS staff members Case deVries, Jason Frederick and Chris Kracht for helping out at the meet. Thanks also to those that came out that watched the meet. Mike Ruhland and his merry troop of supporters. Signs? I didn’t see any signs……
