O Wines Founder Stacy Lill was recently named a Puget Sound Business Journal 2013 Women of Influence Award nominee.

Lill co-founded O Wines in 2006 with a mission to fund scholarships and help young women improve their lives through education. In 2012, she sold O Wines to Ste. Michelle Wine Estates to help grow the brand nationally and raise even more money for student scholarships. She continues to serve as brand ambassador to raise awareness of the Opportunity for Success Scholarship.  To date O Wines has raised $175,000 and funded more than 53 student scholarships.  Most of the scholarship recipients were the first members of their families to attend college.

Alex Jaffe, a 6th grade student at Wellington Elementary in Woodinville, recently achieved his 3rd degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do. Alex has been studying the art of TKD since kindergarten. He is the youngest student at Parks TKD.

The Children’s Alliance recently  recognized Sen. Andy Hill as one of its 2013 legislative champions for his work to end childhood hunger. Hill secured additional funding for the State Food Assistance program, which provides grocery money to legally-residing, low-income immigrant families.

"The Legislative Champion Award is the highest honor our organization can give to a lawmaker. The award recognizes strong leadership and clear accomplishment," said Jon Gould, deputy director of the Children’s Alliance. "Senator Andy Hill knows that hungry kids can’t learn. We are pleased to recognize him as a Champion for Ending Childhood Hunger for his work to restore food assistance to families in need."

Sarah James of Woodinville, a graduate of Bothell High School and Chapman University of Orange, Calif., just returned from a month-long tour in Australia with Ricky Martin. Sarah was one of eight dancers who performed with Ricky Martin as he toured through Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide and Newcastle. She will be in Puerto Rico later this month for a quick tour with Martin.

Sarah has been very involved in the Los Angeles and Northwest dance community. She has been on You Think You Can Dance, performed on American Idol, the Voice and an episode of iCarly.

She teaches classes in LA and San Diego and has choreographed several solo, duet, trio and large group numbers for dance studios in California as well as Washington. She has also participated in runway modeling and modeled for a Seattle clothing magazine.

Berklee College of Music announces that Nalini Krishnan of Woodinville has earned placement on the dean’s list for the summer semester of the 2013 academic year.

A Woodinville High School student, currently attending Cascadia Community College full time, received a milestone award from the  U.S. Air Force Civil Air Patrol. Col. David Lehman, Washington State CAP Wing Commander, presented Ryan Johnson with the General Billy Mitchell Award.

Johnson has had aspirations of representing his country as an aviator since the first grade.  Everything he has done in school and in extracurricular activities over the past four years has been with the Air Force Academy in mind.  Learning leadership and serving his local communities through the Civil Air Patrol, maximizing his athleticism through inline speed skating and training under the direction of world class skater and Team USA world coach, Vicci King.
