Evergreen Family Theatre presents ‘Tuesdays with Morrie’

Evergreen Family Theatre is pleased to present the poignant and humorous adaptation of “Tuesdays with Morrie,” co-adapted by author Mitch Albom.

As a student at Brandeis University in the late 1970s, Albom was especially drawn to his sociology professor, Morris Schwartz. On graduation he vowed to keep in touch with him, which he failed to do until 1994, when he saw a segment about Schwartz on the TV program Nightline, and learned that he had just been diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s disease. The story chronicles 14 Tuesdays spent getting reacquainted with his beloved sociology professor Morrie Schwartz, who was succumbing to ALS, a neurological illness that steadily leaves “a man frozen inside his own flesh.”

“Evening at the Pops”at WHS

The Woodinville High School Music Department will be present its “Evening at the Pops” concert on Thursday, May 22 at 7 p.m. at the Northshore Baptist Church at 10301 NE 145th Street, Bothell. This is a special all-department end-of-year concert that includes wonderful music from the three jazz bands, wind ensemble, choir, orchestra and percussion ensemble.

This will be a wonderful evening of music performed by the students of the music department who have worked hard all year, and have earned awards at several festivals.

Table seating is $10 per person and includes special desserts and beverages. Balcony seating is $5 per person. Tickets can be purchased at the door or by coming to the high school Saturday, May 10 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. or Tuesday, May 13 from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Bear Creek 6th graders perform Disney’s High School Musical Jr.

The 6th grade students of Bear Creek Elementary and PTA are launching the first annual PTA 6th grade play on June 14th – Disney’s High School Musical Jr.

Join the Bear Creek community as 6th graders wrap up their elementary school experience by bringing this energetic musical to life on stage.

The performance will be Saturday, June 14th 2014 from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. at the Northshore Performing Arts Center, 18125 92nd Ave. NE, Bothell, on the campus of Bothell High School. Cost is $5.00 per ticket. A limited number of tickets will be sold at the door. This performance, with its catchy tunes, modern day setting, and strong messages of acceptance and friendship, is a wonderful experience for all ages. Revel in the end-of-school-year excitement by sharing this theater experience with friends, family and community members.

Gold Creek Railroad delighted the crowds

Gold Creek Railroad

An authentic narrow-gauge railroad which circled the grounds provided entertainment for hundreds of children who thronged Gold Creek Park during its popular 1960s years. In the locomotive cab was William G. Tyrrell, pet food manufacturer, who created the park for family entertainment. The 74-acre site also had a log fort, pioneer grist mill, four swimming pools, picnic areas and an ice-skating dome. The Woodinville Heritage Society will highlight the park in its prime years during a program Saturday, May 17, at 10 a.m. The event will be at the Sammamish Valley Grange on 140th Avenue NE, just north of the Old Hollywood Schoolhouse. The PowerPoint program includes numerous rare photos and comments from former Park employees who will be present.

Lake Washington Institute of Technology’s Culinary Arts and Wine programs are hosting the second in a series of seasonal wine dinners. The popular “Wine Dinner” series features culinary student creations and some of the best wines of the Pacific Northwest. Enjoy a savory amuse bouche, followed by four exquisite courses, each paired with local wines from Woodinville-based Patterson Cellars. Highlights of this dinner include King Salmon Rillettes, lobster and morel handkerchief, cinnamon smoked pork tenderloin, and a special dessert completes this perfect way to celebrate mom while supporting student scholarship programs at LWTech.
