Local U.S. Marines celebrate Leatherneck Honor Guard

  • Written by Woodinville Weekly Staff

Six Puget Sound Marine veterans will be honored for 28 years of exemplary volunteer service at the annual barbecue sponsored jointly by the Marine Corps League Detachment #336 Puget Sound and the Chosin Few. The event takes place Sunday, Aug. 17 at 11 a.m., at VFW Post 2995, located at 4330 148th Ave. NE, Redmond, WA 98052.

Leatherneck Honor Guards Jack Colman, John Desjarlis, Max Diamond, Mike Kavanaugh, Don Larsen and Al Rasmussen are World War II Pacific Theater and Korean War veterans. They formed the Leatherneck Honor Guard to ensure deceased U.S. veterans and their families receive the military tradition of respect and dignity at funerals and memorial services, in the best tradition of the United States Marine Corps.

Dignitaries scheduled to attend include Alfie Alvarado-Ramos, Washington Department of Veterans Affairs; Tony Wright, King County Executive’s Office; and Joel Estey, King County Veterans Program.

All U.S. Marines, FMF Corpsmen and Chosin Few and their families are encouraged to band together in fellowship to further comradeship bonds between those in the service and those who have returned to civilian life and to celebrate the ideals of American freedom and democracy.
