A uniquely Northwest program helps homeless men and women in addiction recovery to turn their lives around in a year-long team training to climb the 14,000-foot Mt. Rainier.
In these times of political turmoil, it’s a perfect time to spend a Friday night getting a bit of a heart-lift by seeing “A New High,” a documentary following a team of homeless folks in their year-long effort.
“The Climb Out of Homelessness program uses alpine mountaineering to build new healthy lifestyle habits and relationships…and facilitates healing relationships between those in recovery and community members who climb alongside them,” said Mike Johnson, executive director of the Tacoma Rescue Mission.
And if you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to train—and then climb Mt. Rainier—the movie features spectacular footage all the way up the mountain.
