The Boys of Summer Hurricanes punched their ticket to the Babe Ruth 13-15 World Series with an 18-14 victory over the Twin City Twins on Aug. 10, twice coming from behind to win a wild, back-and-forth Pacific Northwest regional title game in Baker City, Ore.
The Canes — a select team comprised largely of players from Woodinville — fell behind 7-0 by the middle of the second inning, but responded with a 10-run outburst in the bottom half of the frame. Then after the Twins (Chehalis, Wash.) retook control in the fourth and led 14-10, the Canes mounted another comeback, scoring eight runs in the fifth before shutting down the Twins in the final two innings.
The Canes won all six of their games in the tournament and entered the championship game having outscored their opponents 51-9.
The Canes now head to Longview, Wash. for the World Series, which features 10 teams from across the country and will be played at Lower Columbia College from Aug. 20-28. The Canes begin the tournament against Lumber River, N.C. on Aug. 22.
