FEDERAL WAY — The No. 3 State Ranked Lady Falcons opened the 2019-20 season in fine fashion with a dominating 69-36 win on the hardwood at Todd Beamer High School Wednesday evening, Dec.4.
“I thought we played well — it was a good way to open up the season with a solid win,” coach Scott Bullock said. “We had balanced scoring with three girls in double-figures and played good defense."
Junior Mia Hughes led the Woodinville attack with 20 points. Sophomore sensation point guard Veronica Sheffey added 17 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals. Freshman Brooke Beresford knocked down 14 points, and sophomore Tatum Thompson finished with 11.
The first quarter of action was fairly tight with the Falcons holding a 17-11 lead.
“It was close to start with,” Bullock said. “But we opened things up mid-way through the second quarter and then took control in the second half.”
Woodinville took a 33-21 score into the locker room at the break and then went on a 16-7 third-quarter run to blow things wide open.
The team shot 67% from the floor, was 3-of-9 from beyond the arc, sank 12-of-16 from the charity stripe and hauled down 30 boards and dished out 15 assists.
The Falcons are back on the court Saturday at 7 p.m. as they entertain the Lake Washington Kangaroos.
“Lake Washington won the 3A Conference last year," Bullock said. “So we expect them to come in here and play well.”
