After further review of the snow day make-up schedule as well as meetings with the associations, Riverview School District will gain an extra day by making the early releases on April 19 and 26, and May 3, 10, and 17, into full student days.
This will mean the last day of school for students will now be Tuesday, June 25 instead of Wednesday, June 26. June 25 will be a full school day for students.
This revised schedule will be contingent on OSPI (Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction) granting three state waiver days (four for Cherry Valley Elementary), PSE (Public School Employees of Washington) and REA (Riverview Education Association) each signing a memorandum of understanding, Riverview School Board approval, and avoiding any more cancelled days.
Students missed a total of seven days this year because of weather, and Cherry Valley Elementary missed an additional day due to power outages. Districts cannot get waivers unless they have met the state required 1027 instruction hours for students, but they can request extra time be waived after those hours are met. The state law also says that each school must make up at least three days regardless of anything else.
