It was a gorgeous Northwest day for Camp Gilead’s first- ever 5K Memorial Day Fun Run/Walk to help raise money for camper scholarships.

Over 260 people came out to Gilead for the event – from all over the greater Seattle area, as far as the Bellingham area as well as central Oregon.

Christ Fellowship of Everson, Wash. brought down a group of 20 junior highers and parents just for the race. They also raised money on their own to help even more campers through the scholarship fund.

Many of the runners experienced Gilead for the first time, drawn by the opportunity to run in a 5K. An incredible team of over 50 volunteers helped out with registration, parking, serving breakfast and on the race route.

The run was followed by a pancake breakfast, awards ceremony and the annual Memorial Day service with Chaplain Bill Gasser.

Winner in the male division was Mitchell Briggs, 19, of Everett with a time of 15:30.

The female winner was Mimi Meggison, 13, of Lynden with a time of 20:20.

One hundred percent of the expenses for the race were sponsored by friends of Camp Gilead, local businesses and supporting churches.

Thanks to those who took part in this first-ever event at Camp Gilead. We were able to raise close to $7,000 for scholarships.
