Area residents have been volunteering as live models for local artists over the past two years.

The models have included local winemakers, chefs, farmers, business owners, musicians, attorneys, engineers, teachers, children and a variety of other people who live and work in Woodinville and the surrounding areas. The second annual Portrait Art Exhibit at Gallery 113 in the Woodinville Tourist District will be opening with an artist and model reception on Saturday, Oct. 24, from 4 to 8 p.m.

The public is invited to the exhibit opening celebration to meet the artists and some of the models. This is a free event.

Local artists and the Sammamish Valley Arts Center can be supported by purchasing a work of art. The portrait art works will include paintings in oils, pastels, acrylics, graphite, charcoal, watercolors and ceramic sculpture. The exhibit will run through Nov. 22.

The Sammamish Valley Arts Center hosts weekly open studio time with live clothed models for artists of all ages and experience levels. The Arts Center is a non-profit organization with a mission of supporting art in the community. For information on becoming a model, call Barbara at (206) 335-6727. Gallery 113 is located in the Apple Farm Village at 14525 148th Avenue NE.
