On Saturday, April 17, at approximately 7:45 a.m, a fire broke out at the Waste Management Cascade Recycling Center facility in north Woodinville.

The fire started in a material sorter, however the sprinkler system contained the fire until fire crews arrived and completely extinguished the fire.

The cause of the fire within the machinery is still under investigation. Due to the size of the structure and amount of paper products on site, the fire district response was increased to a two-alarm fire to assure the fire would not spread.

No injuries were reported among the waste management workers on site or the firefighters extinguishing the fire. The Department of Ecology assured that no water run-off from fire fighting activities was able to reach the Little Bear Creek downhill from the facility.
