The Emergency Services Coordinating Agency (ESCA) is offering discussion-based review sessions to assist those interested in preparing for the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) ham radio license examination.
Beginning Monday, Sept. 28, a panel of subject matter experts will review and discuss sections of the licensing manual on each consecutive Monday night until Nov. 9. An FCC examiner will administer the exam on Monday, Nov. 16.
All review sessions will be held from 7:30-9:30 p.m. at the Emergency Services Coordinating Agency located in the Brier City Hall at 2901 – 228th Street SW.
Students will receive an orientation to the ham radio role in emergency communications for local government emergency operations centers, a tour of the ESCA radio room, amateur band radio purchase advice, practice test opportunities, and chances to get some pre-license “on the air” time under the supervision of a licensed radio operator.
The study session textbook, the Ham Radio License Manual, is available to students through the Emergency Services Coordinating Agency at a discounted price of $18.71, or directly from the American Radio Relay League (ARRL) Web site at www.arrl.org for $25.95. The review sessions are free with the exception of the textbook and an FCC exam fee of $15. There are no other costs.
