Transition Woodinville announces an orientation meeting, Thursday, May 19, 7 p.m. at the Sammamish Valley Grange.
Open to all in the community, this is an opportunity to learn about Woodinville’s own Transition Town Initiative which supports, promotes, educates and celebrates making Woodinville a more sustainable community.
Transition Town Initiatives are a response to this question: "How can we make our community stronger and happier as we deal with the impacts of peak oil and economic contraction while at the same time urgently reducing CO2 emissions?" (From TransitionNetwork.org, What is a Transition Initiative?) The Sammamish Valley Grange is the fiscal sponsor of Transition Woodinville, or in other words, it is a committee of the Grange. Both groups share similar goals, including encouraging local food and farms and fostering community. Other sponsors include the Sammamish Valley Alliance and Woodinville Unitarian Universalist Church.
Transition Woodinville selected "Bee Resilient" as its motto because a key project is support of pollinators and their relationship to the food that grows in our valley. Many beekeeping and pollinator workshops were sponsored by Transition Woodinville as part of April’s Earth Day Unleashing.
