WOODINVILLE–Passengers on a tourist bus experienced quite a wild ride last Thursday after their bus, coming down Winery Hill during an afternoon excursion, apparently lost its brakes and ran over two of the wine district’s roundabouts and hit two cars before finally coming to a stop.
Woodinville Fire & Rescue spokesman David Weed was at the scene and said none of the bus passengers was injured.
According to reports of the incident, the bus was headed down the hill on 173rd Place by Chateau Ste. Michelle at about 1:40 p.m. and seemed to have lost its brakes as it approached the traffic circle at Northshore Athletic Fields.
The bus with 46 passengers drove directly across the roundabout and over landscaping, Weed said. Apparently still unable to stop, the bus did manage to navigate the large traffic circle at NE 145th and Woodinville-Redmond Road (SR 202), turning south out of the circle onto Woodinville-Redmond Road (SR 202).
The bus continued down the road and hit the third traffic circle, destroying landscaping and causing an irrigation pipe to break, before hitting two boulders on the side of the road and coming to a stop in front of Plants Northwest nursery.
Two people in a Volvo that were hit by the bus at the first traffic circle were taken to Evergreen Hospital as a precautionary measure, according to Weed.
Weed said the bus showed little damage after the incident.
Woodinville Police are investigating.
