Duvall’s ‘Garden Celebration’ is July 9

  • Written by Aaron Keating, Duvall Chamber of Commerce president
The Duvall Chamber of Commerce has teamed up with the City of Duvall and one of its outstanding members, Kirsten Lints of Gardens Alive Design, to offer the community a new event celebrating all aspects of gardening within the Snoqualmie Valley. Whether your passion for gardening includes vegetable gardening, home gardens or containers; this July 9 event has something for everyone.

The day starts at True Value in Duvall to learn from local professional container designer Karen Chapman of Le Jardinet. Celebrate summer as Karen shares tips and tricks to make your container gardens sizzle. Karen will demonstrate the planting of two unique designs as she teaches how to put plants together to create drama and impact as well as demonstrating the best methods for container drip irrigation to keep your pots looking fabulous even when you’re on vacation. The basics will be covered for those new to container gardening and more seasoned gardeners will gain inspiration for new combinations. You can also follow her on her blog at

Pick up your "Duvall’s Garden Celebration brochure," also available at True Value, then spend the day touring gardens. The brochure will provide a list of the available gardens to view along with more information about the events going on at the gardens, including children’s activities.

Every member of the community is encouraged to get more involved with this celebration and share the joy of their own hard work completed in their yards by calling the Duvall Chamber of Commerce office at 788-9182 to register your home garden. The deadline to enter is June 26, 2011.

In the afternoon come back to town and stroll the streets of Duvall to view the professionally designed containers that are hosted by our local businesses. Designers and landscapers from our community have created pieces of living artistry that will be on display throughout downtown. Vote for your favorite container design and participate in the silent auction of the containers. Bid on a designed container that would be perfect for your yard and maybe have one for your own. The containers will be unveiled and also on sale at the 5th annual Art in Bloom event on June 17-19.

As you saunter through town, listening to street music, be sure to notice the many businesses that have a special section of garden related merchandise for this event and also delicious menu items.

Cooperating businesses are also listed within the "Duvall’s Garden Celebration brochure." Enjoy dinner in Duvall or a glass of wine in the middle of summer and celebrate with us.

Save the date to visit Duvall on July 9th and join in the fun, food and flowers at Duvall’s first annual Garden Celebration and Tours. Follow us on Facebook at "Duvall’s Garden Celebration."
