Woodinville Repertory Theatre plans fund-raiser at new home

The Woodinville Repertory Theatre (WRT), which has brought professional theater to the Woodinville area since 1998, has a new home.

The company, founded in 1998 by the late Peg Phillips, is moving to the Denali Stone Slab Studio in Woodinville and plans to produce three shows in the 2012 season. Before the season kicks off, the Rep will hold a fundraiser at its new home at 6:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 8.

Denali Stone Slab Studio is located at 16120 Woodinville Redmond Rd NE, Suite 15, Woodinville. Tickets are $15 online and $20 at the door. To buy online, go to www.woodinville or check out the company’s Facebook page.

The Oct. 8 fundraiser will feature a silent auction, refreshments and hors d’oeuvres and readings from three shows projected for the 2012 season: “The Best Laid Plans,” by Fred Carmichael, “Southern Hospitality,” by Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope and Jamie Wooten, and “Almost, Maine,” by John Cariani.

“Southern Hospitality” is a sequel  to the comedy “Dearly Beloved,” which delighted local audiences in June.

Prem and Lily Gnanarajah, owners of Denali Stone, offered the use of space in their facility after attending a performance of “Dearly Beloved.” The theatre had been located at the Wellington Hills Golf Club for many years.

The new facility will allow more production flexibility as well as seating configurations.

Peg Phillips founded the Woodinville Repertory Theatre in 1998, convinced that Northshore audiences were hungry for live-theater productions nearby. The theater’s first production, “I Hate Hamlet,” won strong community support.

Productions since then have included the musicals “Mame,” and “Guys and Dolls, Noel Coward’s “Blithe Spirit” and Neil Simon’s “The Odd Couple” (the female version) and “The Prisoner of Second Avenue.”
