Obit BergersonAlf A. Bergersen passed away peacefully on September 11, 2011, surrounded by family and friends, after a hard fought battle with cancer.

Born in Oslo, Norway in 1936, Alf attended school there through the college level before serving in the Royal Norwegian Air Force from 1956 to 1958.  A scholarship from Washington State College in Pullman drew him to the U.S. and ignited his lifelong love for this country.  Alf received his BA in business administration in 1961, was a proud member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity and remained a diehard Coug’s fan.  He worked for Boeing until 1964 when he returned to Oslo and with a boyhood friend built a successful publishing company, Økonomisk Litteratur (ØL), which he led until 1984.  Drawn back again to Seattle, Alf established his own businesses in finance and real estate where he continued to be active until his passing.  Through his membership in the Norwegian American Chamber of Commerce, including serving as its president from 1988 – 1990, he worked to strengthen commercial ties between the two countries.

A resident of Woodinville and Friday Harbor, Alf was loved and will be missed by many in the U.S. and Norway.  He is survived by his wife, Anne Bugge and his son, Mark Bergersen. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Alf’s memory to a favorite charity or to the Swedish Foundation in support of the Swedish Cancer Institute, 747 Broadway, Seattle, 98122.
