Did you know that the week of January 15th –21st is Random Acts of Kindness Week in our local communities?
The RAK Club at Cedarcrest High School has the following “schedule of events” planned for this awe-inspiring week.If teachers or staff would like some ideas as to how you or your students can support this wonderful week-long annual kindness event, please see the CHS events list below.
Random Acts of Kindness Week events at Cedarcrest High School: January 17th - 20th
RAK Week is sponsored by the CHS RAK Club.
The CHS goal ... to complete 1,000 Acts of Kindness!
When Cedarcrest students/ their families see/do/receive an act of kindness (like opening the door for someone) they will write it down. An army of RAK kids will then count them, and display them. Each morning (Tuesday –Friday) the RAK Club will draw one lucky prize winner!
Monday: Sticky notes with kind phrases will be placed in the restrooms and other random places around CHS campus.
Wednesday: Be EXTRA Kind to Freshmen Day
Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday: Pizza, cookies, or ice cream to an unsuspecting table at each lunch
(Encouraging students to sit in a different spot on Tuesday during lunch)
Thursday: Gratitude Day and road clean-up in downtown Duvall (1/19) after school
Friday: After School Adventure at Ixtapa in Duvall – Students “pay it forward” at Ixtapa
In the Snoqualmie Valley, January 15th – 21st is the 6th annual Random Acts of Kindness Week
During this week, the communities of Carnation, Duvall, Monroe and Woodinville will take time to be kind! (And support local businesses!)
Random Acts of Kindness Week began after local resident Connie Berg and her two kids noted how hard the Puget Sound Energy linemen were working to get the power back on after the 2006 windstorm. She and her kids made a sign that said “WE LOVE OUR PUGET SOUND ENERGY WORKERS!”
She also took note of the difficulties faced by downtown businesses which were out of power for days after the storm. Berg suggested to the city that it would help businesses to have a Random Acts of Kindness Week and the city agreed. “Dine out in Duvall” was the slogan for the first RAK Week held in January 2007.
For ideas on how individuals can participate in this year’s Random Acts of Kindness Week, check out Berg’s new website, www.rakduvall.com, designed by Ann Marie Gill and hosted by Ovaleye Cloud Services.
There are daily suggestions to try during the entire week. Hopefully RAK Week will inspire the community to continue to do kind acts throughout the year.
Some ideas ...
Sunday – Smile and say hi to someone you walk past in a store or on the street.
Monday – Shop locally.Skip the malls, shop local!
Tuesday – Pick up trash in your neighborhood or a local park.
Wednesday – Dine Out locally! Go out for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Or, all three!
Thursday – Take time to be thankful! Send a card, text, email, or just tell someone you are thankful for them.
Friday – Honk if you love a local business! As you drive past a business you love, give them a quick honk!
Saturday – Do something fun and local with your family!
If we all come together as a community, we can make a difference in this world, and spread a lot of kindness!
