Ballard came in having lost five KingCo games in a row, its offense in a funk.Woodinville was coming off a stunning 60-58 upset win over Garfield. Yet the Beavers would shoot 53 percent from the floor and 63 percent from behind the arc (10-of-16) en route to a 68-57 win over the Falcons on Friday at WHS.
Go figure. Ballard’s 6-4 junior John Verduin had a monster game with 27 points, 16 rebounds and three blocked shots. Verduin just happens to be the nephew of Woodinville coach Jamie Rowe.
“He’s a nice player and he lit it up tonight,” Rowe said. “But 16 boards? Are you kidding me? We didn’t box out.”
The Beavers out-rebounded the Falcons 33-20. Robbie Jackson led Woodinville (3-8, 5-11) with 13 points but misfired on 11 of 16 shots from the floor. Tommy Wick scored 11 and Jake Miller added 10 for the Falcons, who host Bothell on Wednesday.
Friday was a tough night for the Northshore schools. Bothell (5-5, 9-6) was beaten 59-52 at Garfield. Inglemoor, firmly entrenched in the KingCo Crown division basement at 1-9, 5-10 overall, absorbed a 65-48 shellacking at home against Roosevelt.
