First toll bills sent to SR 520 Pay By Mail customers

This week, 19,000 State Route 520 toll bills will arrive in mailboxes across the Puget Sound region. That might seem like a lot, but it’s far fewer bills than the Washington State Department of Transportation expected to send. While WSDOT was prepared to handle up to 40,000 Pay By Mail transactions per day on the SR 520 bridge, thanks to Good To Go! account holders, WSDOT will process fewer paper bills and save  thousands of customers $1.50 on each toll.

“The number of Good To Go! drivers crossing the bridge has exceeded our expectations,” said WSDOT Toll Division Director Craig Stone. “Our goal was to have 50 percent of vehicles using a Good To Go! pass, and thanks to our customers, we have surpassed that number.

This past Friday, 70 percent of drivers had Good To Go! passes. While Pay By Mail is a great option for those who choose it, we would like to see more drivers saving $1.50 each time they cross the bridge rather than getting a bill in the mail.”

WSDOT is mailing the first toll bills   to drivers who did not have Good To Go! accounts and crossed the bridge between Dec. 29, 2011 and Jan. 4, 2012. The Pay By Mail rate for the SR 520 bridge is $1.50 more than the Good To Go! rate . The higher rate covers the extra processing costs required to generate each bill.

Drivers can pay their toll bill online , by phone at 1-866-936-8246, by mail or in person at a customer service center   in Seattle, Bellevue or Gig Harbor.

Drivers who use SR 520 at least once a month are encouraged to open a Good To Go! account to save  $1.50 in tolls each time when crossing in the future. Current account holders received electronic statements in the mail last week that reflected their toll charges using the Good To Go! Pass or using Good To Go! Pay By Plate. Drivers pay an extra 25 cents per crossing when using Pay By Plate.
