The Woodinville gymnastics team, young as it is, dialed it up at the Tacoma Dome Friday under the bright lights and brought home a second place trophy in the Class 4A state championships.
The Lady Falcons finished less than one point behind eventual champion Mead High School.
They sent three qualifiers to the Saturday individual event where freshman Emily Paratore placed second on beam, junior Madison Engel placed fifth on bars and senior Julie Tollifson placed seventh on beam.
“I couldn’t be more proud of this young team,” Woodinville coach Kim Fleming said.
“We only have a total of four seniors and juniors and in this group we only had three who had been to a state meet.
“So to have our best meet of the season — our best scores on every event — is just great. I’ve been coaching at WHS for a long time and don’t remember having a team quite like them.
“They all get along and care about each other, a nice group of girls with great parent support.”
Woodinville won four consecutive state 4A titles from 2007 to 2010.
“This will be a great team again next year and to have seen how much heart, drive, effort and courage they have ... I know they will have a great shot at winning state next year,” Fleming added.
