The Woodinville boys came up big at state. From left to right: Joshua Scheck, Zach Oropesa, Max Emerick and Gunner Burn.
Led by freshman Max Emerick, Woodinville finished 12th at the Class 4A swimming and diving championships in Federal Way — its best result ever. Emerick finished ninth overall in the 100 butterfly finals, and finished 10th in the 100 backstroke, setting personal and school records along the way.

“Max is a great athlete and a 4.0 student,” team coach Annie Price said. “Woodinville is fortunate to have such a talented swimmer making records at WHS.”

Emerick was not alone, as he was joined in the 200 and 400 freestyle finals by teammates Joshua Scheck, Zach Oropesa and Gunner Burn as they finished eighth and 10th, respectively, in the events — setting school records in both.

Drew Carlson-Rothe finished sixth in the state diving competition, and Sasha Krumm finished 12th.

“Hard work and dedication starts bright and early for these Falcons and it shows, after placing third in districts and 12th at state.

“We have some great young talent here in Woodinville and I feel fortunate to be a part of it,” Price said. “This has been a spectacular season for the boys and we are definitely moving up in the ranks.”
