Drowning ruled accidental

A 21-year-old man last seen near the Sammamish Slough in Kenmore after running from a bail bondsman last Monday was found dead Tuesday around 12:45 p.m. in approximately 8 feet of water, King County Sheriff’s spokeswoman Sgt. Cindi West said. The body was later identified as Ryan Becker, according to the King County Medical Examiner. His death has been ruled accidental by drowning. West could neither confirm where Becker lived nor what he was wanted for.

The Sheriff’s Office began receiving calls Monday at approximately 6 p.m. by citizens claiming they saw a person “in some type of uniform” chasing a young man towards the slough in the 17400 block of 82nd Court NE.

“Then we received more calls from neighbors that heard splashing and a man yelling for help in the water,” West said.

Deputies from the department’s Marine-Rescue and Dive Unit responded to the scene to search for the man but were unable to locate him.

Tuesday morning deputies contacted a woman who was with the man when he fled from the bondsman. She said that after her friend ran, he phoned her and told her to meet him on the other side of the slough. Becker never showed.

Marine-Rescue and Dive units returned to the scene Tuesday afternoon to discover his body in the water near the 16900 block of 81st Ave. NE.

The King County Sheriff’s Major Crimes Unit continues to investigate the incident.
