Congressman Dave Reichert (WA-08) invites all interested high school students residing in Washington state’s Eighth District to participate in the 2012 Congressional Art Competition.
“Every year, the Congressional Art Competition serves as a creative opportunity for students to showcase their artistic abilities,” Reichert said. “It is always an inspiration for me and my staff to study the art produced by our talented youth. The interaction and connection with young artists, their parents and their teachers is energizing. This competition highlights the importance for our young people to be creative, artistic, and motivated.”
The winning work of art will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for a year. Last year, Griffin Running, a Tahoma Senior High School student, won with his creative photo, “Puddle.”
Every spring, members of the House of Representatives sponsor the Congressional Art Competition nation-wide. The Competition began in 1982 as a program designed to help elected leaders encourage young people to push themselves in the artistic realm. The deadline for all Eighth District artwork to be delivered to Congressman Reichert’s district office is Thursday, April 19th by 5 p.m. Entries are accepted in person or by mail at 22605 SE 156th Street, Suite 130 Issaquah, WA 98029. The details of 2012’s competition can be found by visiting Congressman Reichert’s Art Competition page on his website.
