Woodinville junior Chandler Olson dominated two long distance running events at the Bi-District 4A Championships at Marysville-Pilchuck High School, establishing school records in the 1600 and 3200 meter runs.
The records she broke were her own, which meant she PR’d twice, and she’s headed to Tacoma to compete for two state titles.
“She had a couple big days,” Falcon coach Jed Sires said. “She’s really, really good at what she does and has a great chance to become a state champion.”
Woodinville will send six kids down south, including reigning state champ Austin Sodorff in pole vault, who set a school record at 15’ 6” in the hot weather in Pasco on April 14 but has yet to raise the bar.
He finished tied for first at districts at 14 feet: tepid.
The Falcon boys’ 4X400 relay team: Parker Moore, Michael Goodsell, Nikko Llera and Wesley Love came up big to finish third and earn a ticket to Tacoma.
“Those guys dropped two seconds from their time which is huge,” coach Jed Sires said. “We changed up the order a bit and it worked well. We may change it again.”
Love, meanwhile, punched his personal ticket in the 400 meter dash with a fourth-place finish.
Heading to state, and perhaps driving the van, was Sires satisfied with his coaching season?
Jed paused to think about it.
“It was not bad,” he said. “Coulda been better … but our kids competed.”
